The Oklahoma City Thunder continued their dominant start to the season with another convincing victory, defeating the Washington Wizards by 19 points on Friday night. The win comes as little surprise, as the defending NBA champions were heavily favored against a Wizards team that finished with the league’s second-worst record last year.
With the victory, Oklahoma City improved to 6-0 to begin the 2025–26 season, despite still playing without second-leading scorer Jalen Williams. Center Chet Holmgren also missed his second straight game due to injury, but the Thunder didn’t miss a beat.
Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again led the way, scoring 31 points along with seven assists and three rebounds. Off the bench, Ajay Mitchell and Isaiah Joe each added 20 points, while Isaiah Hartenstein chipped in 17, capitalizing on Holmgren’s absence in the frontcourt.
The win also secured another historic milestone for the surging Thunder. Oklahoma City has now won 21 consecutive games against Eastern Conference opponents, a streak dating back to last season. The run marks the longest winning streak against the opposite conference in NBA history, further emphasizing the team’s remarkable balance and depth.
Despite battling through injuries, the Thunder remain unbeaten and continue to look every bit like championship favorites. Oklahoma City will have two days off before hosting the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday. After that, they’ll begin a four-game Western Conference road trip starting Tuesday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
