The San Francisco 49ers are 5-3 and heading into a pivotal matchup in Week 9 against the New York Giants. While the NFC East opponent is dealing with key injuries to multiple offensive stars, the 49ers have plenty of their own issues.
Fred Warner is out for the season, as is Nick Bosa. While the 49ers front office has begun to address the issues, adding 26-year-old pass rusher Keion White, there is still a need at both pass rusher and linebacker, among other positions, for the 49ers to address.
Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer, when asked about the 49ers addressing more of those issues or not, revealed that he doesn't think John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan are done adding just yet.
49ers not expected to stop scouring trade market after Keion White deal
"I don't think White is the end of it." Breer writes. "I could certainly see the Niners adding another piece to the defensive line or the secondary. But there's also a larger question here: Should the Niners keep pushing chips into the middle of the table?"
While Breer doesn't think the White addition from the New England Patriots will be all the 49ers do by the 2025 NFL trade deadline, the overall moves might not be as much as they might've otherwise been.
The injuries to Bosa and Warner are massive losses, as their absences will dramatically lower the ceiling of the 49ers' defense. Even if they end up trading for solid replacements, if they aren't signed for more than 2025, then the 49ers will have limited their potential.
Improving the roster this season is still on the table, but the 49ers are expected to be cautious about adding rental players or spending draft capital on players in the short term.

While there are holes on the roster, hurting the team's future won't help the aging 49ers stay competitive. If Warner and Bosa were set to come back later in the year, things might be different.
But, since both are done for the year, and the rest of the roster isn't free from injury concerns, spending a lot on players to try and be a Super Bowl contender this season might not be the best use of resources.
As Breeer emphasized, there doesn't have to be a hard reset, but the future does need to be in consideration at the 2025 deadline for the 49ers.
But, even though Breer doesn't expect the 49ers to spend a fortune, he does still believe they aren't done being active in the trade market. They could target players like White, who will be with the team through 2026. San Francisco isn't expected to be done, though it might not be the active deadline fans dream of.
