Daniel Farke opened up about his feelings on the start of the Premier League season.
Leeds United earned an opening matchday victory against **Everton**and beat West Ham 2-1 last Friday. With a 3-1 win over **Wolves**in the mix, the team have picked up 11 points, sitting in 15th position, and are six points clear of the relegation zone. Survival is the first item on the agenda for the Peacocks, who cannot afford to become complacent before they achieve this target in the top flight.
However, all three promoted outfits from the **Championship**have looked significantly more competitive than in the last couple of years, and Farke was keen to credit the commitment of his group up to this point.
“Need to be a bit nervous at the beginning, if the fire isn’t burning you should retire. Experience also helps, worked at Premier League and Bundesliga level, had a good feeling in pre-season not just with our quality but with spirit.
“Hope for a good start because it’s good for confidence throughout the whole club. Doesn’t mean we’ll fall asleep and be over confident.
“It is tough for newly-promoted sides, illness and injury can stop momentum pretty quick. Don’t want to come across not humble anymore, we’re happy and confident but also know it’s a long road.
“I would be a bit more relaxed if we’d have achieved the points we deserved, could be 16 or 17 points. The most important thing is that our performance are good, not like we earned points by luck, earned them with hard work and sometimes a bit unlucky.
“But not a guarantee, if we finish with 11 points we won’t survive. We spoke about nine or 10 wins, to be on three is good but we have to keep going. Never experienced that we do anything easy so I expect some challenges, some tough times will come. We have to ride the momentum and keep going.”
