What Cristian Romero once said about Alejandro Garnacho should excite Chelsea for Tottenham clash

It is fascinating to look back at what Cristian Romero once said about Alejandro Garnacho ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Tottenham this weekend.

Spurs host Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening in the Premier League.

Alejandro Garnacho, who joined from Manchester United in the summer, could become a bit of a fan favourite if he shines in this fixture. The 21-year-old winger should be confident after scoring his first goal for the Blues last weekend, too.

Although Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca admits he’s pleased with Garnacho’s impact since he joined, he faces stiff competition from teammate Jamie Gittens for the starting position on the left wing.

What Cristian Romero said about Alejandro Garnacho in 2024

Spurs centre-back Cristian Romero, who’s played with Garnacho for the Argentine national side, previously hailed him while he was still a Man Utd player.

Speaking via TyCSports, Romero said in March 2024: “Garnacho is going to give a lot to the national team. It’s not easy to adapt, he’s very shy. But I see him doing really well, he has a huge future.”

Even though Garnacho has taken his time to find his best form at Stamford Bridge, it’s quite exciting that the Spurs captain rates him so highly. Hopefully, the South American attacker is about to explode into life for Chelsea.

Garnacho is encouraged to crash the box at Chelsea because it should help to increase his goal tally.

At Man Utd, he scored 26 goals in 144 first-team appearances. As the young forward gains more experience, we’re optimistic that he can start to increase those numbers quite significantly.

It’s just one goal and one assist from Garnacho during his opening nine Chelsea matches across all competitions. However, as the young wide man learns Maresca’s system, there are signs of his potential and devastating attacking threat.

The reality is that Chelsea’s wingers know they need to perform when they step out on the pitch because the competition is very tough.

Cristian Romero is back for Chelsea showdown

After missing a few games through injury, Romero is back for Spurs just in time to face Chelsea.

Thomas Frank confirmed via Spurs’ official website that Argentine defender Romero is available to play against Chelsea.

In fairness, the partnership of Romero and Micky van de Ven at centre-half can be one of the most impressive in the Premier League because of its pace and power. Perhaps this could be a match for the guile of Joao Pedro to cause them problems.
