Alan Shearer has admitted that West Ham are in a ‘horrible situation’ ahead of facing his beloved Newcastle United.
The Hammers have endured a miserable start to the 2025/26 season, as they get set to face a Newcastle United team that have shown real signs of progress in recent weeks.
After a slow start themselves, the Magpies are finding their groove. They have won five of their last six, enjoying a great start in the Champions League and reaching the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
It is the Premier League where Eddie Howe needs to improve, and he will be confident that his side have enough quality to beat a desperately out of form West Ham.
That is how Alan Shearer feels about Newcastle’s next fixture, despite having a lot of sympathy for the Hammers and their current plight.

Alan Shearer backs Newcastle United to inflict more misery on West Ham
The Newcastle United legend has predicted this weekend’s Premier League games for the Metro.
Unsurprisingly, he has backed the Magpies to beat West Ham at the London Stadium and pick up their first away win in the Premier League this season.
“I wouldn’t say comfortable for Newcastle, but I think with the form and the pressure that is at West Ham, there seems to be a real discord between fans, owners and players,” he said.

“Newcastle have to go there and take advantage of that horrible situation. I would hope Newcastle go there and get three points.
“At the minute, I do think West Ham will go down, because I don’t see anything that can tell me differently. With what I’ve seen up to now this season, they will go down if it doesn’t improve dramatically. I would really worry for West Ham fans.”
West Ham fans to protest after Newcastle United game
West Ham are in a real mess, and the supporters are not happy.
The Hammers faithful have already protested against their ownership this season, with many fans boycotting their previous home game against Brentford. There was also a march before they lost to Crystal Palace, which proved to be Graham Potter’s last game as manager.
Now they are set to protest again when Newcastle United head to the capital. This time, West Ham supporters group Hammers United have organised for a sit-in to take place immediately after Sunday’s match against the Magpies.
It could prove to be a poisonous atmosphere inside the London Stadium, especially if Eddie Howe’s side are victorious as expected.
There will certainly be sympathy from the Toon Army, who put up with years of discontent and organised multiple protests against the ownership of Mike Ashley before he sold the club to PIF in October 2021.
