Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has addressed the fresh nickname bestowed upon him by supporters of his new club.

The Belgian shot stopper arrived at United on transfer deadline day as part of a wave of prominent signings over the summer that saw the club also sign Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Earlier this month, Lammens' previous manager Hayk Milkon suggested he possessed the potential to become the finest goalkeeper on the planet.

He also claimed that he'd seen reports commenting on the "boring" attire Lammens selected when turning up for international assignments, though he maintained "it's just the way Senne is", arguing that it underlines his composed character and capacity to remain grounded as a top-level athlete.

Now, in a new interview, Lammens himself has been questioned about a new label - 'The Boring One'. Naturally, he has been fondly given this nickname.

"I understand I might come across as 'boring,' but that's the goalkeeper I want to be," he told Belgian publication HLN. "I don't do anything crazy. In recent years, players have come through here who... weren't boring. But I want to stand for consistency. Staying calm, in good times and bad.

"If you want a successful career, you have to have that quality, I think. I saw that in Simon Mignolet (at Club Brugge) and Jean Butez (at Antwerp). They were my role models. I was able to steal from them with my eyes."

When questioned about whether he'd sought guidance from Thibaut Courtois, he nodded before responding: "We talked about English football during the last international break, together with Matz Sels. They know what it's like to be a goalkeeper in the Premier League. Being able to train with them in the national team also makes me better."

United supporters have also been heard chanting "Are you Schmeichel in disguise?" in reference to legendary shot-stopper Peter Schmeichel. Addressing this during his interview, he admitted he's delighted by the acclaim, reports the Mirror.

He said: "It was wonderful to hear the supporters sing that to me. A huge compliment, especially after my first match. But I'm not getting too carried away with their enthusiasm. I still have a lot to prove to be mentioned in the same breath as Peter Schmeichel, you know."

Despite displaying such composure, Lammens is still just 23 and has completed only one full campaign of senior football. He joined United on transfer deadline day following a protracted saga that had connected Emiliano Martinez with the Old Trafford outfit.

Regarded as the more modest choice between the sticks, the signing has proved successful thus far with numerous encouraging signs from his opening months in the north west. United's next fixture sees them make the journey to the Midlands, where they'll take on Sean Dyche's Nottingham Forest. After nine matches, United sit in sixth position with 16 points.
