Sean Dyche has a challenge on his hands to get Nottingham Forest up the Premier League table, according to stats experts Opta.
The Reds have not won in the league since the opening day of the season and are currently stuck in the relegation zone. Dyche oversaw a Europa League victory over Porto in his first match in charge last Thursday, but couldn’t steer the club to back-to-back wins as they were toppled by Bournemouth a few days later.
Saturday will see Forest play their first home league match under Dyche when Manchester United visit the City Ground (3pm kick-off). The former Reds youth player knows his team will be in for a tough game against Ruben Amorim’s resurgent side but hopes what is sure to be a cracking atmosphere Trentside can give the hosts the edge.
It is still very early on in the season and there is every chance Dyche can turn Forest’s fortunes around. However, based on results so far, Opta have tipped the Reds to finish in the bottom three.
Opta’s current predicted table has the Reds finishing 18th. Their expected points total is put at 37.24 and they are said to have a 42.26% chance of being relegated.
West Ham United, now with ex-Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm, and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also tipped to go down. Newly-promoted Burnley and Leeds United are predicted to finish just above the drop zone.
Opta’s predictions change according to teams’ form so a run of positive results would most likely alter the picture for the Reds. Earlier this month, when Ange Postecoglou was still manager, Opta’s supercomputer had Forest finishing 15th with 40.29 points.
Predicted final table (expected points)
1 Arsenal (80.17)
2 Manchester City (69.47)
3 Liverpool (68.26)
4 Chelsea (60.28)
5 Aston Villa (60.09)
6 Bournemouth (59.56)
7 Newcastle United (58.91)
8 Crystal Palace (57.96)
