Spurs climb into top 5 in latest NBA power rankings amid hot start

The San Antonio Spurs have made history to start the 2025-26 campaign, though they aren't looking to stop there.

For the first time in franchise history, the Spurs have begun the regular season with a 5-0 record. To make matters worse for the rest of the league, De’Aaron Fox still has yet to make his season debut due to a strained right hamstring.

Victor Wembanyama has ascended to a new level to begin the 2025-26 campaign, and he's already drawing early consideration for MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player honors. Beyond Wembanhyama, the Spurs boast considerable depth and young pieces in Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, who already appear ready to contribute to a near-contending team.

Spurs reach new heights in latest power rankings

Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey released his latest NBA power rankings for the 2025-26 campaign. The Spurs were originally listed at No. 11 before the season but have climbed all the way into the top five following their historic start.

“They're undefeated, and their 7’4” basketball titan, Victor Wembanyama, is dominating in a way we’ve truly never seen before and cruising toward a potential MVP at just 21 years old,” he wrote.

Wembanyama has been the best two-way player in basketball to begin the 2025-26 campaign, averaging 30.2 points, 14.6 rebounds, 4.8 blocks, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He's also shooting 56.3 percent on 19.2 field-goal attempts per game.

However, he isn't the only Spur to reach new heights thus far. Castle is averaging 18.8 points per game on 53.4 percent shooting, while Devin Vassell is averaging 16.8 points per game and shooting 40.5 percent from three-point range.

With Wembanyama's two-way dominance, Fox's return imminent and the young core stepping up, the sky is the limit for the Spurs.
