NFL Fines Ravens Six Figures For Lamar Jackson Injury Report Error

The Baltimore Ravens have been find $100,000 for incorrectly reporting QB Lamar Jackson’s participation status ahead of the team’s Week 8 game against the Chicago Bears. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL levied the heavy fine on the organization for calling Jackson a full Friday participant instead of limited, giving the misrepresentation over his status.

Though Jackson was listed as questionable on the team’s final injury report ahead of the Bears game, the full participation tag suggested he would play. However, Jackson was full on the scout team, not with the offense’s first-stringers, and NFL rules mandate those who work only on scout team must be called “limited” even if their reps weren’t otherwise limited.

Jackson missed three games due to a hamstring injury suffered in Week 4’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

As we wrote recapping the news last weekend, a fine was the most likely outcome. The NFL has wide discretion to levy any type of punishment, including taking away draft picks, but the league didn’t feel the error rose to that level. Ultimately, the league concluded the Ravens’ misreporting was an honest mistake and not an attempt to fool the Bears over Jackson’s status.

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones notes the Ravens cooperated fully with the league during its investigation.

Of note, the Ravens cooperated fully with the league's investigation. The NFL believes the violation was due to negligence, and that's why there's not a more significant punishment (like loss of draft picks.) https://t.co/GKCE1AtY5C

Jackson returned for Thursday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins, throwing four touchdowns in a convincing 28-6 victory.

The Steelers will face Jackson and the Ravens in Weeks 14 and 18.

This is the second major fine the NFL has handed down to an organization this season. The New York Giants, head coach Brian Daboll, and rookie RB Cam Skattebo were all fined for their mishandling of QB Jaxson Dart’s concussion earlier this season.

Per our friends at Quirky Research, the last team to lose draft picks were the 2025 Atlanta Falcons for free agent tampering.
