The Baltimore Ravens may have picked up their third win of the season, but the team has been hit with a big punishment by the NFL. Following the controversy surrounding how the team handled the injury return of quarterback Lamar Jackson, the league has come down with a massive fine.

There were reports that the Ravens organization was set to be made “an example of,” which could have included the team forfeiting draft picks and being hit with a sizable fine. Now, it appears that only one of those outcomes has happened.
Per multiple reports, the Ravens have been fined $100,000 for the mishandling of Jackson’s injury report.
According to Adam Schefter, “Sources: the NFL has fined the Baltimore Ravens $100,000 for violating the league's Injury Report Policy by incorrectly listing quarterback Lamar Jackson's practice participation status on Friday, October 24.”
The controversy came during Week 8 when Jackson was labeled on the injury report as being a full participant. However, further reports indicated he was only playing with the scout team, and the Ravens downgraded his status to limited.
The mishandling of his status and the confusion about his availability led the NFL to investigate the matter, which has now led to a massive fine for the Ravens organization.
The organization has also released a statement on the punishment and fine.
The statement reads:
“It is critical that the Baltimore Ravens always operate with integrity and in full accordance with NFL guidelines.
“We clearly made an error regarding player injury reporting and cooperated transparently with the league’s investigation.
“We accept the decision by the NFL that we violated the policy and have taken steps to ensure that we will be compliant moving forward.
“We will not appeal the ruling and are focused on our upcoming game versus the Vikings.”
The Ravens only facing a $100,000 fine is certainly nowhere near as bad as it could have been. The NFL could have chosen to pull draft picks from the team, which may have been their first-round selection.
Either way, no other teams are likely to make this mistake moving forward.
