Why Bulls' court looks different tonight vs. Knicks in NBA Cup in-season tournament

The courts around the NBA are different on Friday night.

That's because it's an NBA Cup night.

The Chicago Bulls host the New York Knicks as part of the fun. It's the first day of the league's third season of NBA Cup action, the event normally known as the in-season tournament.

Teams will each compete in games that count in the regular season standings but also point toward a different trophy as part of the cup competition.

And they'll do it on funky floors.

Why does the Bulls' court look different?

The Bulls, like every other home team in NBA Cup action, have a different floor specifically for the tournament games.

It's meant to signify to fans that this is a game in the cup competition rather than just a generic regular season game.

For the Bulls, that means their floor is gray with a black outline and some red accent.

As far as these courts go, it's pretty sharp.

Some red teams have opted to have a red floor, which is just bright and obnoxious. This is subtle in a good way.

The Bulls themselves did the all-red in the past. This will likely be better received by their fans.
