The NFL has fined the Baltimore Ravens $100,000 for violating the injury report in regards to starting quarterback Lamar Jackson’s status last week, according to NFL Media.
As Jackson worked his way back from a hamstring injury, he ran the scout team Friday. The Ravens listed him as a full participant at practice and questionable for last Sunday’s game against the Bears.
However, league policy states that a player must be listed as limited if they don’t take their normal practice reps, which Jackson didn’t. The Ravens corrected the report on Saturday and downgraded Jackson to out.
Per Ian Rapoport, the league believes Baltimore’s mistake was one of negligence, not malice, and that factored into the punishment. The Ravens released a statement saying they accepted the league’s findings and would nevermore violate the injury report rules.
“It is critical that the Baltimore Ravens always operate with integrity and in full accordance with NFL guidelines,” the statement read. “We clearly made an error regarding our player injury reporting and cooperated transparently with the league’s investigation. We accept the decision by the NFL that we violated the policy and have taken steps to ensure that we will be compliant moving forward. We will not appeal the ruling and are focused on our upcoming game versus the Vikings.”
