Opinion: Bayern Munich ace could solve Everton problem, David Moyes should explore January move

Everton need to find a new right-back in January, and David Moyes should keep tabs on developments at Bayern Munich.

Everton have endured mixed results in the early weeks of the Premier League season.

David Moyes must be backed in January, and a right-back has to be a key target.

Jake O’Brien is putting in a shift as a right-back, but he would be better off as a centre-back.

Kenny Tete left Everton hanging as he agreed a deal with the Toffees, before signing a new deal at Fulham instead.

Everton should look at Bayern Munich’s Sacha Boey

Everton will be looking far and wide for a right-back who can come in and make an instant impact.

One man who could fit the bill is Sacha Boey, who finds himself on the fringes at Bayern Munich.

Boey was outstanding at Galatasaray, producing superb Champions League displays to earn a January 2024 move to Bayern.

The 25-year-old showed that he was strong in 1v1 duels defensively, but also had the quality to impact the game going forward.

The move to Bayern hasn’t quite worked out, though, as Boey has managed just 12 Bundesliga starts in almost two years at the Allianz Arena.

Boey has started four league games this season, but is not Vincent Kompany’s first-choice right-back.

Boey’s career is in danger of stalling in Bavaria, and Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claims that Bayern want a new right-back in Feyenoord’s Givairo Read.

A deal for the Dutchman in January would surely pave the way for Boey to move on, just as Everton need a quality right-back.

Boey is also represented by the CAA Stellar agency, who work with Jack Grealish and Jordan Pickford.

That could give Everton a route into signing Boey, and Moyes should be interested if Bayern are ready to let him go.

Everton may need to consider a player who can play both full-back roles

Boey is a natural fit at right-back, which would certainly tick the main box for Everton.

One thing Everton may also need to think about is adding a full-back who can play on both sides.

Summer signing Adam Aznou could leave on loan in January after a lack of playing time at Everton.

Rather than sign a left-back as well as a right-back, Everton could look to solve two problems with one player.

Boey has limited experience at left-back, but did play there on a couple of occasions for Rennes.

That may come into Moyes’ thinking come January, with both full-back areas potentially in need of some attention at Everton.
