NFL Legend Addresses Patrick Mahomes-Josh Allen Debate Before Week 9 Clash

The storied rivalry between Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen is set to get yet another iteration on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Buffalo Bills. Naturally, this has brought back the debate as to which quarterback has the upper hand over the other, which legendary NFL wide receiver Torry Holt addressed.

It’s hard not to compare Mahomes and Allen, given the fact that the overwhelming majority of NFL fans have both players ranked somewhere inside their top three quarterbacks in football.

Recently, Allen has held the edge in individual accolades as the reigning NFL MVP. Mahomes, meanwhile, has the clear advantage in long-term team success as a three-time Super Bowl champion.

Someone like Torry Holt certainly would have been lucky to have played a player as talented as either Mahomes or Allen during his 11-year NFL career.

However, when asked on Friday which quarterback he would rather catch passes from, Holt gave the edge to Mahomes due to his creativity as a passer.

“Patrick Mahomes, I would rather catch the ball from Patrick Mahomes,” said Holt. “Throws off-platform, keeps his eyes down the football field. Can throw the deep ball, can throw the out-route, the comeback, the digs. Can throw everything on the route tree. He’s creative and he’s fun. You go to the park with a guy like him, you know you are going to win games and you are going to get the rock.”

As for who Holt actually favors in Sunday’s game, the seven-time Pro Bowler predicted that the Chiefs will go into Highmark Stadium and defeat the Bills.

“I’m predicting that Patrick Mahomes could be one of my big game ballers this weekend,” added Holt. “We all know that he hasn’t done well in the regular season against the Buffalo Bills. But he has been fantastic in the playoffs. I believe Patrick Mahomes will be special, playoff-style special in a regular season matchup against the Buffalo Bills and have a spectacular day. He’s got so many weapons that he is throwing the football to. Picking the Chiefs to win this one.”

Given just how dominant the Chiefs have looked over their past three games, it’s certainly hard to poke too many holes in Holt’s argument here in favor of Kansas City.

However, as Holt alluded to, John Allen does have a 4-1 record in regular season matchups against the Chiefs. So Sunday’s matchup should certainly be not only a highly entertaining one, but also a close and competitive one on paper.
