Surprise Chiefs illness throws o-line plans into chaos before Bills game

Another week on the schedule brings another surprise on the [Kansas City Chiefs' injury report](https://www.chiefs.com/team/injury-report/). Recent weeks have featured last-minute changes or new designations before game day, and this week's scheduled contest against the Buffalo Bills is no different.

Here's a look at those players with injury designations for Week 9 for the Chiefs versus Bills.

Jaylon Moore, OT

----------------

A surprise addition to this week's injury report, [Jaylon Moore sat out of practice due to illness,](https://x.com/mattderrick/status/1984321010674393255) and his status for Sunday's game against the Bills is questionable. That's troubling news for a team already missing their starter at left tackle with Josh Simmons away from K.C. dealing with a personal matter. Moore has been a stellar addition as a swing tackle who can step in and handle starting responsibilities when called upon. Now, it's quite possible the Chiefs will have to turn to Wanya Morris opposite Jawaan Taylor.

Trey Smith, IOL

---------------

Andy Reid must not be concerned about any long-term effects of playing Trey Smith as his starting right guard so quickly after missing a game due to back spasms. The Chiefs could play it safe and keep him out for another week before the bye, but instead, he'll return to man the interior next to Creed Humphrey against an important conference rival in Buffalo. Given how Mike Caliendo struggled at times manning the position, Smith's return is a welcome sight, even as fans also cross their fingers that Smith won't re-aggravate anything in the process.

Isiah Pacheco, RB

-----------------

The most obvious listing of all of the Chiefs' injury designation comes at running back, where Isiah Pacheco will officially sit out of the team's game in Week 9. Given that he was termed "week to week" with an MCL sprain in the last several days, it makes sense to keep him on the sidelines. Combined with the rest coming with a bye in Week 10, the Chiefs should have positive updates for Pacheco heading into Week 11 against the Denver Broncos.
