The Miami Dolphins have parted ways with general manager Chris Grier, the team announced Friday.
Grier, who joined the Dolphins organization in 2000, had served as the franchise’s general manager since 2016. His departure comes one day after the Dolphins lost to the Baltimore Ravens, 28-6, on “Thursday Night Football” to drop to 2-7 on the season.
“This morning, I made the decision along with general manager Chris Grier to mutually part ways,” Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross said in a news release. “I have incredible respect for Chris and his family, and I want to thank him for his many contributions to the Miami Dolphins over the past 26 years.”
Dolphins senior personnel executive Champ Kelly will serve as interim GM, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
In nine-plus seasons under Grier as GM, the Dolphins went 77-80 with three playoff appearances – all losses in the opening wild card round. Miami posted 10-plus wins on three occasions, including Grier’s first season in 2016, 2020 and an 11-6 record in 2023.
While Grier is out as Dolphins GM, head coach Mike McDaniel will remain with the team for the remainder of the season, Schefter reports.
McDaniel, the former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator, was hired by Grier as the Dolphins’ head coach in February 2022. He has a 30-30 overall record in four seasons as Dolphins head coach.
The Dolphins next play on Sunday, Nov. 6 at home against the AFC East-rival Buffalo Bills.
