Knicks’ Josh Hart notes major adjustments to be made in team’s new system

The [New York Knicks](https://www.sportingnews.com/uk/nba/new-york-knicks) as a whole are undergoing a major adjustment in 2025-26. With a new head coach in Mike Brown, the team’s entire philosophy has changed, with some players experiencing bigger adjustments than others.

Last season, forward Josh Hart enjoyed the best season of his NBA career under former head coach Tom Thibodeau. Hart averaged 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists last season. He also recorded nine triple-doubles last season.

So far this year, Hart has gotten off to a slow start, averaging 3.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game in three appearances. He spoke with [Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News](https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/10/31/knicks-josh-hart-checking-ego-mike-brown/) about the adjustments he’s had to make.

“I feel like I’ve got the biggest adjustment out of the whole team,” Hart said. “Just in terms of role, starting not starting, how the minutes are gonna be, and I’ve obviously talked to Mike about how the minutes are gonna go, and I’ve gotta know every position.

“There’s gonna be times where I’m bringing the ball up, times when I’m the five and times where I’m the four, so I literally have to know every play from every different position,” he added.

If any player on the roster was capable of being the sort of Swiss Army knife for the team, it’s Hart. As the season progresses further, Hart will surely figure out his niche in the Knicks’ new system, and should remain one of the team’s most important players as they go for a title opportunity in 2026.
