'By default': Sean Dyche shares if he actually supports Liverpool after leaving Everton

Former Everton manager Sean Dyche is now managing Nottingham Forest and has addressed the rumours over his support for Liverpool.

David Moyes succeeded the 54-year-old at the start of the year and the Toffees have not looked back since.

With the Friedkins now at the helm, Everton are looking like a club back on the rise again, with a stunning new stadium to show off.

Dyche proved a divisive figure on Merseyside, with the club battling another relegation battle when he was sacked in January.

After departing Goodison Park, Dyche thinks his work at Everton won’t go appreciated given the financial circumstances he was working under.

The 54-year-old did ultimately keep the Toffees afloat, but he did see some suggestions emerge over him potentially supporting their city rivals.

Former Everton boss Sean Dyche shares whether he supported Liverpool

On the back of his departure from Everton, Dyche admitted he’d love to manage Manchester United, having suggested he could do better than Ruben Amorim.

After almost a year out of the game, Dyche has now taken the reins at the City Ground following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking on the Could it be Magic? podcast, the 54-year-old has finally addressed the elephant in the room regarding his rumoured support of Liverpool.

“It’s Kettering Town. I was a Kettering Town fan. Genuinely,” he quickly replied.

“I lived in Kettering. My dad used to take me to Kettering Town. We had season tickets and all that.

“But that didn’t make a story. So when I got to Everton, they said,’ oh, you’re a Liverpool fan.’ And I went, no, I’ve always told the story.

“It was in the 70s. When you’re from Kettering, it’s the 70s. Liverpool are winning everything. So you’re a Liverpool fan by default almost. A bit like, you know, my new fans in the late 80s, early 90s. It’s like everyone was a Man U fan because they were winning everything.

“So it was that. But really, I was a Kettering Town fan. My son went on loan to Kettering.”

Ironically, following his criticism in recent months, Dyche was praised by Man United boss Amorim for being a ‘very smart’ manager.

Although some fans are yet to be won over by Dyche, this is at least something Everton supporters can get behind.

Sean Dyche’s Everton record vs Liverpool

He may not have been a Liverpool fan, but his record against the Reds wasn’t anything amazing during his time at Everton.

However, Dyche did lead the Blues to one victory against Jurgen Klopp’s side last year, which left the German speechless.

Klopp admitted Goodison Park’s atmosphere was good and he was treated to a 2-0 defeat in his last-ever game against the Toffees.

Dyche may have lost twice on the road against Liverpool, but that victory at Goodison is certainly one which fans will remember.
