Bears Suffer Major Setback as Star Is Ruled Out vs. Bengals: Chicago’s Momentum Faces A Huge…

The Chicago Bears have quietly built one of the NFL’s most balanced and promising offenses this season — a group that’s exceeded expectations behind smart quarterback play, improved protection, and a rejuvenated running game. But just as things started to click, that balance took a hit.

The team announced Friday that running back D’Andre Swift has been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a groin injury, a setback that could shift Chicago’s offensive rhythm at a critical point in the season.

Swift missed three straight practices this week before the Bears confirmed his inactive status. The 26-year-old was enjoying one of the best starts of his career, rushing for 464 yards and four touchdowns through seven games, while adding 192 receiving yards and one touchdown as a dual threat out of the backfield.

Without him, the Bears will turn to rookie Kyle Monangai, who has flashed potential in limited opportunities, totaling 186 yards on 42 carries this season. The young back will have to shoulder a much heavier workload against a Bengals defense known for its physical front seven.

What This Means for the Bears’ Offense

Chicago’s success this year has stemmed from a newfound identity — one centered on balance. The running game has complemented a developing passing attack, helping control the tempo and open play-action opportunities. Swift’s absence now tests that formula.

The Bears are averaging 127 rushing yards per game, ranking in the league’s top ten. Swift’s explosiveness and vision have been key to that success, and replacing his production won’t be easy. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron will likely expand Monangai’s role while mixing in Roschon Johnson and short passing plays to keep defenses honest.

Chicago’s Season Narrative

At 4-3, the Bears have steadily climbed into the playoff picture, showing grit in tight games and improving on both sides of the ball. Their upcoming matchup against Cincinnati could be pivotal — not only for the standings, but also for gauging whether this young team can overcome adversity.

It’s not a crisis, but it’s a checkpoint. The kind of test that defines whether a season’s early promise can translate into lasting success.

What’s Next

Chicago faces the Bengals on Sunday with an opportunity to prove its depth. The focus will be on whether Monangai and the rest of the offense can maintain rhythm without Swift’s dynamic presence.

The Bears’ season has been built on quiet progress. Now, they’ll have to continue that momentum without one of their most consistent offensive weapons.
