Warriors' Next Move Predicted Amid Al Horford Concerns

The Golden State Warriors are once again legitimate championship contenders thanks to a couple of major additions they made over the last year. It started by landing Jimmy Butler at last season’s trade deadline. Then, over the summer, the Warriors signed Al Horford, the ageless wonder.

Or is he?

Horford has gotten off to a very slow start this season, averaging just 5.8 points and 3.5 rebounds over 22.5 minutes per game while shooting 36 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from three-point range in four contests.

It’s still very early, and that’s obviously a minuscule sample size, but it’s enough of a potential concern that has some wondering if the Warriors could be examining other potential options.

During a recent episode of The Athletic NBA Daily, Nick Friedell projected Golden State to pursue some more frontcourt when the subject of the Warriors’ next possible trade target surfaced.

"I would just say another big man, because you know what you're going to get from Draymond," Friedell said. "I know Horford has started slowly, but again, he's Al Horford and he'll be fine. If you had one more big man just for depth purposes, I think that could help them. But let's see how the next couple of months play out."

While Friedell might think Horford will be just fine, it’s important to remember that he is 39 years old, so one of these days, the cliff is going to arrive for the long-time veteran.

Horford played in 60 games while making 42 starts for the Boston Celtics last year, registering nine points and 6.2 boards across 27.7 minutes a night on 42.3/36.3/89.5 shooting splits.

His dip in percentages during his final campaign with the Celtics was enough of a concern as it was, particularly considering he made 51.1 percent of his shots and 41.9 percent of his triples the season prior.

If Horford continues to struggle with the Warriors, you can absolutely expect Golden State to try and add another big man to its rotation.

The Warriors are currently 4-2 and will face the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.
