New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has been accused of making “slick” comments about former quarterback Jordan Travis.
Johnson has been in the headlines a lot recently. At the owners’ meeting recently, Johnson lashed out at Justin Fields, who then went on to get his first win of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jets fans have demanded that Johnson sell the team, and supporters are growing tired of disappointment each year. The Jets haven't reached the playoffs since the 2010 season, and things have gone from bad to worse in 2025 with the franchise sitting at 1-7.

Travis was a rookie on the Jets in 2024, but retired before he saw the field. The fifth-round pick enjoyed a productive collegiate career at Florida State, but sustained a serious injury to his left leg in what proved to be his final college appearance against North Alabama in November 2023.
Without getting an opportunity with the Jets, Travis was forced to retire from the NFL. Johnson’s recent comments on Fields appeared to frustrate Travis, who brought up his own odd experience with the owner.
“I gotta tell you, that guy, no disrespect, but there were things said to me, not obviously to that point because I never got on the field to play, but about my leg,” Travis said on the “Travis Takes Two” podcast. “Like, just slick comments, I don’t know if he was trying to be slick about it.
“You know how some older people, they just say whatever comes to their mind and it kind of made me feel a certain type of way.

“‘You ever gonna get healthy?’ And I’m just like, ‘Damn.’ Not like, ‘How you feeling?’ Never that, it was always comments like that. It kind of upset me, but kind of rolled over my head.”
Johnson’s approach as an owner has come under scrutiny following his remarkable comments about Fields when the team fell to 0-7. The 78-year-old said: “It’s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we’ve got. He has the ability, but something is not jibing.
“If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you are going to see similar results across the league. You have to play consistently at that position, and that’s what we’re going to try to do for the remainder of the season.”

Ultimately, Travis praised Fields for how he handled the situation as Aaron Glenn’s Jets eventually sealed a 39-38 victory — a first win of the season.
The 25-year-old said: “Kudos to Justin Fields, I don’t know if you saw his press conference, you can see on his face he’s not even distraught, bro.
“It’s really cool, inspired me, I freaking reposted it on my Instagram. Now, it’s his chance, he’s getting his attention, God still has his hand on him the whole time.”
