Hurzeler reveals the strengths of teen star who could make his home debut today

And he could get a first chance today to show that at the Amex.

The former Sunderland winger is in line for a home debut, be it as a starter or substitute, in the continuing absence of injured Kaoru Mitoma.

Watson has been bright off the bench at Manchester United and Arsenal in the past week.

Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler has revealed what caught his eye about the England under-21 international.

He told a press conference: “I think every player who's coming in, we study and we try to understand his strengths, his weaknesses, and really try to focus on the strength from the player, to understand what he's capable of doing, how can he have an impact on our squad.

“And I think Tommy Watson, the last two weeks, he really stepped up in training.

“He showed like more actions. He was more present in possession, out of possession, and therefore, for me, it's not a surprise that when you train, well, then in the game, you will have a higher chance to perform on your best level.

“And that's the way, that's the approach for Tommy and for the young players.

“So hopefully we can continue like this, and then I'm sure it can help us on the pitch.”

Asked what qualities stood out with Watson, who is 19, Hurzeler said: “He's very good in one-against-one situations, especially when he has a lot of space he can attack.

“He has the physical capacity inside of him that he can sprint a lot.

“He can do a lot of high speed metres so he can cover big space in a quite short amount of time.

“And that's something what really can help him to to be a good player in the Premier League.”
