Ben Wilkinson says he was ‘pleased’ with the performance his team put on in Friday’s 4-0 Premier League 2 win over Leicester.
It’s been a difficult end to October for City’s Elite Development Squad.
We fell to three successive defeats, losing to Villarreal (2-1) in the UEFA Youth League, Blackburn (2-0) in the PL2 and Rotherham United (4-2) in the EFL Trophy.
But City’s youngsters worked incredibly hard on Friday evening, earning an important 4-0 win at the Joie Stadium to see us move into the top 16.
A first half brace by Seb Naylor was boosted by Mamad Sangare’s strike and a Kevon Gray own goal.
And for Lead Coach Wilkinson, there was plenty to be happy with from his team’s triumph.
MATCH REPORT | CITY 4-0 LEICESTER
“I was really pleased tonight,” began Wilkinson.
“We spoke before, it’s been a tough kind of seven to 10 days. I don’t think we’ve played as badly as maybe the scorelines have suggested.
“So for the lads to come back and put in a comprehensive performance was really pleasing.
“I don’t know if there was any difference [from the past three defeats], but what I was pleased with was how I thought we were really aggressive.
“I thought we played with really good intensity without the ball, we won a lot of duels, we travelled really well as a team and stayed connected.
“We had really good intensity in our counter press moments. So I think that was something that set up the performance for us.
“So we sort of earned the right to capitalise on that, and after that I felt we created lots of opportunities, scored four good goals, could have scored more, so it was quite pleasing.”
