Matt Le Tissier’s tweet after Eden Hazard beats Man Utd legend to PL Hall of Fame is going viral

Matt Le Tissier, a popular figure among those associated with Southampton, has posted on social media to question the credibility of the Premier League Hall of Fame – intended to recognise and honour players and managers that have achieved great success in England's top flight – after Ryan Giggs, a one-club man with Manchester United, was snubbed yet again. The Premier League Hall of Fame announced its inception in 2020 and the first inductions, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry, took place in 2021.

Inductees are awarded an engraved medallion, and attend a formal induction ceremony attended by other inductees and friends and family. At the time of writing, there have been a total of 24 former players who have been inducted – from Eden Hazard and Gary Neville in 2025 to the likes of Didier Drogba and Wayne Rooney three years – but there still isn't room for Giggs, who is widely regarded, and for good reason too, as one of the greatest wingers in football history.

Le Tissier's Tweet Regarding Giggs and the Premier League Hall of Fame Goes Viral

By virtue of the fact that he is the division's most decorated player – having won 13 Premier League titles between 1992/93 and 2012/13 with the Red Devils – many assumed that Giggs would be one of the very first names to be inducted. But five years on from announcing the very first two inductees, and he's still being snubbed. The latest two to be added are Neville and Hazard.

There has been no official explanation as to why the Cardiff-born star is being omitted over and over again, but BBC Sport did insist in 2025 that many people have concluded 'the controversy over his character lay behind his absence'. Le Tissier, irrespective of said issues, has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to make a bold statement regarding the ex-winger. He wrote:

"Surely Ryan Giggs should be one of the first names in the Premier League Hall of Fame."

Someone provided some sort of rebuttal to Le Tissier's claim as they mentioned the Welshman's off-the-field antics – the former Red Devil was caught having an affair with his brother's partner during his career – as perhaps the reason why. In response, Le Tissier referenced two inductees in John Terry and Tony Adams, who also endured controversy away from the pitch during their respective playing days.

Interestingly, even Giggs' brother, Rhodri, took to X (formerly Twitter) to point out the Hall of Fame's integrity – or evident lack thereof – as he listed off a smattering of his brother's achievements. "13 Premier League medals and countless goals and the record number of Premier League assists. #TheShamHallOfFame."

Rhodri's point on the number of records that Giggs, who is the older brother by three years, has racked up does remain true; the nearest challenger to his 162 Premier League assists is Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne, who is still 43 behind the daring Welshman. His tally of Premier League titles, too, is unmatched – but Giggs himself isn't too fussed about his continuous omission.

In a rare interview with his former Old Trafford teammate Rio Ferdinand, he was asked whether he's bothered about not rubbing shoulders with the stars. "Not really. No, I mean, I don't think about it until you just brought it up. I don't think about it. I think when you start off, you don't... These are the things that you're not striving for," he said.

"You're striving off to win games and try and win trophies. That's the most important thing for me."

Although he spent part of his youth career at Manchester City, Giggs moved to the red side of the football-crazed city and was a key component of United's Class of '92. He graduated alongside the likes of Paul Scholes and David Beckham to become one of the club's most legendary players. All in all, he chalked up 436 goal contributions (168 goals and 268 assists) in 963 appearances for the Red Devils.
