A Chelsea player, who has been labelled as 'the Premier League's worst driver' by The Sun after his latest offence, has managed to narrowly escape being subject to prison time. Though, they have been handed an 18-month driving ban for erratically driving his Lamborghini while undertaking a car on the motorway in Hook, a suburban town in Surrey.
Wesley Fofana – who signed for the Blues from Leicester City in the summer of 2022 – has been ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid community service after pleading guilty to his ninth driving offence. Though he's already serving a ban until May 2027, the 24-year-old's latest offence will see him off the roads for the foreseeable.
This incident happened only months after Fofana was caught above the speed limit in his white Rolls Royce Cullinan, a blue 4.0 litre Audi and his Lamborghini Urus – and the serial speeder has often been caught on his route to Chelsea's Cobham training ground. Collected speeds include 77mph, 68mph, 90mph, 88mph and 67mph.
Previously, the central defender – who rose through the ranks of Saint-Ettiene before being spotted by Leicester in 2020 – had been disqualified from driving for six months in January 2023 after crashing into Eastenders star Dean Gaffney. The actor was left with a broken collarbone the month before and Fofana added more points to his licence.

The dashcam footage of Fofana's dangerous driving – showcasing him weaving in and out of traffic by using the hard shoulder of the A3 Esher Bypass in Hook, Surrey – was shown in court. Fofana, born in Marseille, wore all black and was flanked by two bodyguards on his arrival and only spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
Prosecutor Rabbi Khan explained that another motorist captured Fofana on their dashcam around 4.50pm on April 20. Khan told the court: “The witness identified the danger and this defendant was driving on the hard shoulder at speed in a 50mph zone.
“The offence is aggravated by an approaching bend that was signposted and he is not indicating when making these manoeuvres. He refused to abide by the road rules at speed.”
The Frenchman, according to a report from The Sun, left Staines Magistrates' Court with a smirk on his face. He's being ordered to pay just £85 in costs and £114 victim surcharge.
District Judge Julie Cooper did not mince her words when addressing the once-capped France international – one of the most expensive French players in Premier League history – inside the courtroom. Claiming that, as an inspiration for many young kids, he was setting a poor example as a role model, she said:
"You obviously realise there are a lot of young people who look up to you, and they would like to be like you and follow you," she said. "That’s part of the whole gig. However, they will not be able to afford these expensive cars, with all their additions that keep them safe, and you could have some 17-year-old, who has just passed their test, who think they can copy you.
"They will not be able to handle their car and do some ridiculous driving manoeuvres, and they are dead. You need to be much more responsible about your behaviour.”
Fofana's solicitor, Imogen Cox, claimed there was 'no excuse' for her client's reckless driving on that day, but also that he had taken the necessary steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. "The video speaks for itself – 15 to 20 seconds of driving that are conceded. There is no explanation or excuse for his driving on that day.

"He attended voluntarily for an interview at Guildford Police Station and apologised for driving and said he had learned a valuable lesson about his driving and had no explanation for his driving on that day. His newest misdemeanour pre-dates the speeding offences, which were all within a seven-month period and tied-up at Lavender Hill.
"He is essentially of good character, having no criminal convictions against him. He is fit and healthy and able to carry out community work." This season, Fofana has featured in just five appearances across all competitions – including three outings, none of which were a full 90 minutes, in the Premier League.
