Opinion: Everton left to rue missing out on summer striker target who's now being compared to…

Everton may be regretting their decision not to sign one of their summer targets after his stunning start to the campaign.

The biggest issue for David Moyes this season has been the difficulties he’s found in fielding a striker who can score reliably.

Over the summer, Everton signed youngster Thierno Barry, who is still waiting for a consistent run in the starting XI.

Barry has been training away from Everton’s Finch Farm in a bid to fast-track his development after a slow start on Merseyside.

Heading closer towards the January transfer window, Everton will look to sign a new striker if things do not dramatically improve.

However, the Toffees missed out on a striker over the summer who has hit the ground running with the club who did snap him up.

Everton must regret missing out on Hamza Igamane

During the summer transfer window, Everton showed an interest in Hamza Igamane, who was playing his football at Rangers.

The striker did end up leaving Rangers before the deadline in September as he made the move to Ligue 1 outfit Lille.

And it has been a seriously strong start to life in France for Igamane, who has hit the ground running with his new side.

In just his first 11 appearances, the Moroccan striker has been able to provide a return of seven goals, four of which have come in the league.

The 22-year-old was desperate to leave the Scottish giants, with Igamane refusing to play for Rangers at one point in the summer.

He may not have gone about it in a great way, but Igamane’s move to Lille has certainly shown signs of paying off at this early stage of the term.

It has been that good of a start to the season, the official Ligue 1 X account has compared Igamane to Ronaldo Nazario.

Everton left needing another striker in January

Everton News understands that Moyes was keen to sign two strikers in the summer, but other needs had to take priority.

It has to be said, had Everton signed a striker who was returning goals then this would not even be a topic of discussion.

Barry is training away from Everton outside of the regular hours at Finch Farm as he looks to make his mark on the starting XI.

Whether Igamane would have had the same impact in the Premier League is another question.

But, as things stand, Everton must be thinking what could have been had they landed the in-form Moroccan striker.
