Brentford manager Keith Andrews has decided to be ‘cautious’ with Brazilian Gustavo Nunes moving forwards.

They explain that Nunes is still going through a period of adaptation and challenge in European football. He was one of the hottest prospects in Gremio’s youth system but is still trying to find his place at Brentford more than a year after his arrival.
He joined with big expectations but injuries, fierce competition and a tactical transition to English football have slowed him down. Brentford were confident about him initially. That was shown in the €12m paid for him and the six-year deal he signed.
He suffered a back injury early on and since then has been undergoing a ‘gradual reintegration process’. That’s meant occasional appearances for Brentford’s U21s.
His future is ‘still viewed with optimism’. Nunes is still only 19-years-old and has time to mature into the player Brentford expected. Keith Andrews has elected to take a ‘cautious’ approach with him. He believes the player needs time to adjust to the intense pace and tactical demands of the Premier League.
It means Gustavo Nunes may remain something of a mystery at Brentford for some time. But the Bees haven’t given up on him yet.
