The family of former Hammers boss John Lyall have raised thousands of pounds from an auction of his footballing memorabilia.

Hundreds of items relating to Lyall's playing and managerial career were auctioned by Barnebys earlier this week, as John's family bid farewell to his vast collection of memorabilia - 19 years after his passing in 2006.

The most expensive item sold at the two-day auction was Lyall's 1975 FA Cup Final winners gold medal, still in its original box, which sold for £6,600. Meanwhile his 1980 FA Cup Final manager's medal sold for an equally healthy £6,000.

Other items sold at the auction included programmes and pennants signed by players from West Ham and other teams, including one complete lot of signed match day programmes from the 1975/76 Cup Winners' Cup run.

Also up for sale during the auction was memorabilia belonging to Ronnie 'Ticker' Boyce, who died earlier this year at his home in Norfolk, close to where Lyall's family live.
