Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić has forgotten how to score less than 40 points in an NBA game, and it’s landed him in the record books. With a 44-point effort on Friday night in a win over the Memphis Grizzlies, The Don has now scored 40-plus points in each of his first three games played this season, becoming only the second player in NBA history to do so, the other being a guy by the name of Wilt Chamberlain. The Lakers are now 4-2 on the season. Luka missed three games dealing with finger and leg injuries, but in the three games he has played, Dončić is averaging 45.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 7.7 assists on 58.4 percent shooting. Not bad. It appears that Luka’s offseason conditioning did him some good. Dallas Mavericks fans are still fuming over Nico Harrison’s decision to trade Dončić, and if these sort of numbers continue, the frustration for Mavs fans won’t be ending anytime soon. But Dončić isn’t a physical specimen who dominates by sheer size. That makes his scoring talent more impressive, or at least more interesting. Luka makes the game look so easy on the offensive end. The Lakers — and the entire basketball world, for that matter — are just hoping that he can stay healthy for most of the season and be in good form when the postseason rolls around.
