The Pittsburgh Steelers will be watching the Las Vegas Raiders closely this weekend. With just days until Tuesday’s trade deadline, the Raiders will have to determine if they’re selling veterans to the highest-bidder or will double-down on the 2025 season and win with the roster assembled. If it’s the former, the Steelers are in the mix for WR Jakobi Meyers. Long-rumored to be on Pittsburgh’s radar, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini confirms the Steelers have made calls to the Raiders about Meyers.
“The Raiders have fielded calls from the Steelers and Bills on WR Jakobi Meyers, but Las Vegas has set a high price,” Russini wrote in a Saturday morning column. “Pittsburgh is looking at other wide receiver options, too.”
Previously, reporting indicated the Raiders fielded calls from multiple teams about Meyers. This is the first report directly linking the Steelers to him.
Pittsburgh and Buffalo have been the two teams most commonly linked to potentially available wide receivers. The Steelers haven’t found George Pickens’ replacement and, if the reporting is true, don’t have enough trust in WR Calvin Austin III or an emerging Roman Wilson as the No. 2 receiver. With a defense struggling to get stops, the Steelers’ plan may pivot to outscoring the opposition now that the team has a quarterback in Aaron Rodgers capable of moving the offense.
Meyers is a big body with reliable hands. Entering Sunday, he’s caught 29 passes for 329 yards and zero touchdowns on a struggling Raiders’ team. Unable to secure a long-term contract at the start of the year, Meyers asked to be traded. So far, Las Vegas hasn’t entertained the idea. However, deadlines spur action, and the Raiders could sell at the deadline, especially if the team loses to the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend.
Russini’s report conflicts with Albert Breer, who noted the Raiders hadn’t received much interest in Meyers. But more insiders than not have mentioned him as one of the most logical trade candidates, being a veteran on an expiring contract unlikely to return in 2026. Las Vegas simply has no good reason to hold onto Meyers past the deadline.
But Russini’s report notes the team won’t give him away either. Jordan Schultz reported last week that the Raiders are seeking a “Day Two” pick for Meyers, meaning a second or third round selection. A steep price for a half-season rental. All good negotiators start high, and it’s possible, probable even, that the Raiders will be willing to take less come Tuesday. Pittsburgh is content waiting them out.
If not Meyers, Russini notes Pittsburgh is exploring other options. She doesn’t list who those names could be. The New Orleans Saints have several candidates in Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Brandin Cooks. The latter two are most likely to be dealt. The Tennessee Titans could part ways with Calvin Ridley, the type of route runner the offense needs, though he carries a big contract.
Pittsburgh’s first focus is on winning this weekend, but after taking on the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, attention shifts to what could be a busy deadline day-for Meyers and everyone else.
