Leeds United release statement as match abandoned after academy star suffers horror injury

Leeds United have issued a statement after Oliver Wood suffered a serious injury.

The U18 Premier League North clash between Leeds and Middlesbrough was abandoned earlier on Saturday as a result of the incident.

Leeds United confirm Oliver Wood has been taken to hospital

An official statement from Thorp Arch posted on the Leeds United website said: “Leeds United’s Under-18 Premier League North fixture with Middlesbrough at Thorp Arch was today abandoned, due to a serious injury suffered by Oliver Wood.

“The goalkeeper has been taken to hospital and the best wishes of everyone at Leeds United are with Oliver at this time.”

Middlesbrough have already sent a message to the youngster – confirming it was a “head injury” – on X (previously known as Twitter).

Boro wrote: “All at MFC would like to wish @LUFC’s Oliver Wood a speedy recovery after suffering a head injury in this morning’s U18s game ❤️🤍”

Wood has made three appearances in the U18 Premier League for Leeds so far this season, helping the Whites to a 5-3 win over Everton before suffering defeats against Stoke and Liverpool.
