Jones’ return is a big boost, and one that wasn’t expected to begin the week. It will mark Jones’ first game since Week 1, missing nearly two months with a hamstring injury. A seventh-round pick in 2023, he’s been a gem of a selection and started 28 games over the past three seasons. A 17-game starter in 2024, he recorded 100 tackles with 12 pass breakups, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Indianapolis has struggled with injuries at cornerback all season, so getting Jones back greatly improves one of the team’s few weaknesses. Entering Week 9, the Colts rank 29th in passing yards and 29th in passing touchdowns, though those numbers are influenced by the team not having its bye week and facing more pass attempts than any other team this season.
Mitchell was officially signed after appearing in three games already this season. NFL rules allow only three practice squad elevations per year. Mitchell began the season with the Cleveland Browns but was signed by the Colts in October. He’s logged significant snaps the past two weeks, recording one tackle against the Los Angeles Chargers and two last Sunday versus the Tennessee Titans.
Muma had appeared in five games for the Colts this season and recorded five tackles. Washington had played in four games, splitting time on defense and special teams. He’s notched four tackles.
Pittsburgh has until 4 PM/EST to make any additional roster moves. That could include elevating veteran S Darrick Forrest from the practice squad as additional depth after Chuck Clark was ruled out with an illness. Pittsburgh will already be without DeShon Elliott and Jabrill Peppers.
The Steelers and Colts kick off Sunday at 1 PM/EST.
