Exclusive: West Ham could cause Everton January transfer problem after talks with intermediaries

Everton have been warned they will be coming up against competition from West Ham United in the January transfer window.

The summer market was a busy one for Everton who welcomed nine players through the doors at Finch Farm.

A lot of work was needed to bolster the squad, and David Moyes was delighted by Everton’s transfer deals.

Everton News understands that Moyes wants a new Everton striker signed in January after the slow start to the term from their two senior options.

Clearly, it is an area for improvement, given Iliman Ndiaye leads Everton’s scoring charts with a return of three.

The Toffees will not be the only side in the market for a striker with transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey explaining to Everton News why West Ham could cause a major problem to the January plans.

West Ham could put major spanner in Everton’s January plans

Everton News reported earlier today that Everton will be shopping for more than a striker in January, with a right-back also on their radar.

However, a new striker will be very high on that agenda for Angus Kinnear.

Speaking to Everton News, Bailey has claimed a number of intermediaries have been speaking to both clubs about the same strikers ahead of January.

“There are options out there. There’s a few Brazilians and we’ll see with the likes of Everton and West Ham fishing in the same pond,” Bailey told Everton News.

“A lot of fans ask me, ‘why are we linked after the same players?’ Interestingly with that, you do get intermediaries who are working on these deals.

“They do talk to more than one club. If you’re an intermediary with a striker, yeah, I’ll talk to West Ham, but I’ll also talk to Everton.”

Richarlison is a player who Everton admire; a move in January could prove very complicated given his current wage structure.

There are other strikers on the shortlist for Everton, but it is proving likely that they will have to fend off competition from the Irons.

Thierno Barry has huge opportunity to kickstart his Everton career

Tim Sherwood has slammed Beto and Thierno Barry’s Everton performances in the opening eight games of the Premier League term.

However, there is still two full months ahead of the young Frenchman to get his Everton career off the ground before the market opens.

On Friday, Barry seemingly hinted at a potential start against Sunderland on Monday night, with a cryptic social media post.

If the youngster can build up some form over the coming weeks, then it will ease the pressure off the Everton chiefs making a drastic buy in January.

Ideally, Everton would like to kick the can down the road until the summer, but the form of their two current strikers will be a big factor in the plans for the winter market.
