Liverpool team news vs Aston Villa as Arne Slot makes Ryan Gravenberch call

Arne Slot has made nine changes to his Liverpool team against Aston Villa, from the one that started in the midweek defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Reds line-up is similar to the one that began against Brentford last week, but Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have been recalled. The pair were key to last season's success, with Slot reverting to a side based closely from the title-winning campaign.

Slot has also chosen to hand Andy Robertson a first Premier League start of the season, with Milos Kerkez dropping out of the side.

With Alisson still injured, Giorgi Mamardashvili starts in nets for the fourth game in a row.

Conor Bradley continues at right-back, with Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk at center-back, and Robertson coming in on the left-hand side.

Gravenberch and Mac Allister's returns should be significant for the Reds, with Dominik Szoboszlai starting in the no.10 role. Florian Wirtz has surprisingly been named on the bench.

Mohamed Salah returns on the wing and will look to score his 250th Liverpool goal on Saturday. Cody Gakpo is set to start on left wing, with Hugo Ekitike named as no.9 in the absence of Alexander Isak.

Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni and Curtis Jones remain unavailable due to injury. With so many players missing, Liverpool has named two goalkeepers on the bench.

As for Villa, Evann Guessand replaces Emiliano in the only change from last week's win over Manchester City.

Villa start with Emiliano Martinez in nets and a back four of Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres and Lucas Digne.

In midfield it's Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana, behind John McGinn and Morgan Rogers and Guessand. Ollie Watkins will lead the line in a no.9 role.

Liverpool starting line-up: Mamardashvili; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike.
