Wolverhampton Wanderers must sack Vitor Pereira after the Midlands side suffered yet another defeat in the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Hired to replace Gary O'Neil in late 2024, Pereira oversaw a remarkable run of form at Wolves that saw them pull away from a looming relegation battle in the second half of the 2024/25 season. Despite this, the club were no doubt hampered by their summer transfer window, in which star players Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha both left Molineux, joining Manchester City and Manchester United respectively.
As has been something of a recent, and worrying, trend for Wolves, the club did not replace their departed stars with players of equal quality. This has, no doubt, contributed to the side's terrible start to the new campaign. Wolves are without a win in the Premier League after 10 games, picking up just two points from an available 30 and as a result, the club are rooted to the bottom of the table.
Pereira Has to Be Sacked
Vitor Pereira
A nomadic manager who has held multiple positions over his career, keeping Wolves in the top flight last season was a big accomplishment for Pereira. In the new campaign, however, the Portuguese is seemingly still unsure of his strongest team, having made a number of changes to his starting XI within the Premier League's opening stage.
Early in the 2025/26 term, despite already having a string of losses at the time, Pereira signed a new contract with Wolves. This display of faith has backfired for the club's ownership, with Pereira continuing to struggle at getting a tune out of his team. It appears that there is minimal pressure on Pereira, but it is hard to see how he will guide Wolves to anything other than relegation based on current form.
Paying Pereira out of his contract would be expensive, but nothing in comparison to the money Wolves would lose by being relegated. They have a mountain to climb, but there is still enough of the season for Wolves to salvage something from it. Having been spotted at the ground last year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be a name in contention for the role if Pereira is dismissed.
The Norwegian, who was last in charge of Besiktas, enjoyed a stint in charge of Manchester United between 2019 and 2021, guiding the club to a second-placed Premier League finish and a Europa League final. If Solskjaer, who has been called "incredible," could rediscover such managerial form, then he could prove to be an ideal candidate to replace Pereira, who Wolves simply have to dismiss sooner rather than later.
