Jason Cundy amazed by Moises Caicedo and Chelsea teammate during win vs Tottenham

Moises Caicedo and his Chelsea teammates seriously impressed in the weekend victory against Tottenham.

On Saturday evening, the Blues secured a well-deserved 1-0 away win at Spurs, which now means they’ve won five in a row against their London rivals.

Joao Pedro’s first-half goal was the difference between the teams at the London Stadium. However, the scoreline doesn’t quite reflect the large spells of dominance from the visitors. For Chelsea head coach Enzo Maersca, it was just what he needed after last weekend’s slip up against Sunderland.

Jason Cundy hails Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella

Jason Cundy thought Chelsea duo Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella were two standout performers in the Spurs win.

Speaking via Chelsea’s official app, Cundy said (7:00pm, 1 November): “Caicedo again, he’s just immense… Hard work and industry. Caicedo gives you all of that… Cucurella has been as good as anything [on the pitch]. Caicedo is going to get the credit, rightly so, because of the goal. But Cucurella has done so well.”

Caicedo, 23, was imperious in central midfield during the weekend showdown. Without a doubt, he belongs in the conversation as one of the Premier League’s very best players so far this season.

John Terry’s pre-match praise of Caicedo was spot on because he’s in such fantastic form.

As for Cucurella, 27, the left-back stuck to his task superbly well against Mohammed Kudus. He’s proven for the past 18 months now that he’s one of the most consistent full-backs around.

Like Caicedo, Cucurella’s start to his Chelsea career was tough, but he’s now a firm fan favourite because of the top-quality performances each week.

Marc Cucurella stats vs Tottenham

It was a superb individual display from Cucurella at Spurs, proving that he’s a nightmare for opposition wingers.

He is a look at the Spanish defender’s stats via FOTMOB:

Minutes played – 90

Total shots – 1

Chances created – 0

Accurate passes – 39/46 (85%)

Blocked shots – 1

Touches – 70

Tackles – 3

Clearances – 2

Interceptions – 2

Dribbled past – 0

Ground duels won – 4/6 (67%)

Aerial duels won – 2/3 (67%)

Match rating – 7.6

Although we didn’t see Cucurella heavily involved as an attacking threat, something he can definitely do, he knuckled down to defend well and retain possession.

There are still questions about the preferred starting partnership, but Cucurella remains one of the first names on the team sheet at left-back.
