Man United are weighing up their transfer options ahead of the January window
Fabrizio Romano believes Manchester United transfer target Lucas Paqueta could be a ‘very interesting’ investment for the club, but they are yet to make any official approach for his signature.
The Red Devils are admirers of the Brazilian international and the January transfer window could bring some interesting updates.
Paqueta, who was cleared of spot-fixing charges in July, reportedly wanted to move on from West Ham during the summer window but a transfer did not come to fruition. Now, with the Irons continuously struggling at the bottom of the Premier League table, the 28-year-old is once again looking for a way out of the club.
Man United target Lucas Paqueta wants to leave West Ham
According to a report from The Times earlier this week, Paqueta is ‘keen to leave’ West Ham in January, amid their torrid run of form.
The Irons have won just one of their Premier League fixtures so far this season and have a mere four points on the board ahead of their clash with Newcastle United.
Paqueta has started every single match for West Ham so far this season and is a key part of the team’s set-up. However, if results continue to be this disappointing, the Brazilian may push for a move in 2026.
He is under contract with the Hammers until 2027, so next summer could be the last opportunity for the club to get a decent transfer fee for him. After that, they risk losing him for a cut price as he nears the end of his terms.
Fabrizio Romano provides Man United update on Lucas Paqueta link
While Man United are interested in Paqueta, Romano has reported that they are ‘yet to approach’ their Premier League rivals over a potential deal. However, the links between the two cannot be ignored at this stage and he could be a ‘very interesting’ asset to a club like United.
“In January, if there is the right opportunity, Paqueta could have the possibility to go and leave West Ham. So keep an eye on that one, because it’s a concrete possibility,” the transfer expert said on his YouTube channel.
“Many asking about Manchester United. At the moment, I am not aware of concrete or advanced negotiations between Paqueta and Manchester United or Manchester United and West Ham.
“That’s what I am told at the moment on the Paqueta story. Let’s see what’s going to happen. Because Paqueta could be very interesting in terms of role, in terms of quality.
“But financially, West Ham are not going to give Paqueta for free or for small money.”
Graeme Bailey recently reported that £60 million could be enough to convince West Ham to sell Paqueta in 2026. Aston Villa had tried to sign the midfielder over the summer but their offer was ‘some way off’ what the Irons were holding out for.
“If someone comes in with this asking price, which is around £60 million I am told, then, yeah, he could go,” Bailey said.
