Kyler Murray was a limited participant in every practice this week leading up to the Cardinals’ road trip to Arlington, Texas, where the team is looking to snap its five-game losing streak against the Dallas Cowboys.
Despite being limited, the signs looked as if head coach Jonathan Gannon was expecting Murray to start on Monday, coming off a bye week. But for the third straight game, the Cardinals will be sending out Jacoby Brissett instead as their starting quarterback, as Murray is a no-go.
The big news regarding this situation is that Murray will be suiting up as the team’s backup, and Gannon may use him if the situation permits.
Murray suffered the injury to his right foot in Arizona’s Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans, when they blew a 21–6 lead in the fourth quarter.
Despite being 0–2 this season as the team’s starter, Brissett hasn’t been all that bad, as he has averaged nearly 300 yards per game with a 4-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He will be facing off against one of the league’s worst defenses against the pass, as Dallas ranks in the bottom five in passing yards and points allowed per game.
While Arizona will be without the dual-threat element that Murray possesses, Brissett has an absolute cannon of an arm and is not afraid to make aggressive throws downfield.
The Cardinals have won three straight against Dallas, averaging around 30 points per game against them dating back to 2020.
Other key injuries include cornerback Will Johnson (groin) and running back Emari Demercado (ankle); no decision has been made yet on whether either of the two will suit up. Demercado has been a limited participant in practice all week, while Johnson popped up on the team’s injury report late on Friday.
Despite not being the team’s starter, it will be interesting to see in what scenarios Gannon chooses to use Murray in.
