Marcus Rashford and Barcelona have already had discussions over the prospect of a permanent move at the end of the season. The La Liga champions have an option in the forward's loan deal to complete a deal with Manchester United.

Rashford, 28, has impressed in his opening months with the Catalan club. The forward has bagged five goals and offered seven assists under Hansi Flick in his debut season at Camp Nou.

Rashford's representatives have already spoken with club officials over the prospect of coming to terms, according to reports in Spain. And Barca acknowledge that any decision over Rashford will be key to their future strategy.

The side's limited salary space and persistent financial issues mean any deal to land Rashford will impact their ability to sign a top centre-forward, with uncertainty over Robert Lewandowski's future. It is said that 'financial engineering' will be required to come to an agreement.

The report claims that Rashford could be offered a longer contract, until 2030, providing he reduces his salary. The United academy product has already taken a pay-cut to join Barcelona this season and may have to be willing to do so next summer, even with increased competition for his signature, should his form continue.

Sporting director Deco has already warned that decisions regarding players such as Rashford, Lewandowski, and Andreas Christensen will be made at the end of the season. But, it appears the club are happy to extend Rashford's time in Catalonia.

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is disappointed that Rashford's success has had to come away from Old Trafford. The forward was not involved in the Red Devils' pre-season before agreeing his loan move.

"I'd much prefer to see him do that for Man United, if I'm honest," he said on BBC Sport's The Wayne Rooney Show podcast, as he admitted to feeling sad about how the England star's United career has panned out.

"But no, listen... I don't think it was the easiest start, the first couple of games, and there were people talking about him, but he's got his head down, he's doing well, he's playing well, and for any young English player, and especially someone you know and you want to do well, it's great to see that," he added.

"Listen, Marcus Rashford at his best is a top, top player and that's what we all want to see and just hope he stays settled and he keeps performing, keeps working and if he does that then I don't think there's any doubt about his ability."
