The NFL trade deadline is just days away, and teams will have to decide if they're going all-in on 2025 or if they're selling and looking toward the future.
One team that will almost definitely be a buyer if the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are sitting at 4-3 and are in first place in the AFC North. However, the roster is far from perfect, and there are a couple of problem areas the team could look to address.
Look at the receiver spot, for example. The Steelers have D.K. Metcalf, who was added over the offseason in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. Metcalf has been a great add, as he leads the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving scores.
Metcalf has been great, but the other receivers on the team have not been. Metcalf has 461 yards so far, but no other wide receiver has even 200 yards yet.
Jacob Infante of PFSN recently published some bold predictions for the trade deadline. For the Steelers, Infante predicted that the team will trade for Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Meyers has made it known he wants out of Las Vegas, and the Steelers would seemingly be a perfect landing spot. Regarding this potential deal, Infante offered the following:
The Steelers have a strong WR1 in DK Metcalf, but they don’t have a reliable receiver who can help carry the load alongside him. As of this writing, the Steelers don’t have a second receiver with over 200 receiving yards this season besides Metcalf. That could make the position their biggest priority, should they be active at the NFL trade deadline.
Meyers has made it known he doesn’t want to be in Las Vegas anymore, and with the Steelers pushing to win their division, they could provide him with a fresh change of scenery.
As Infante mentioned, the Steelers have to get more production out of the receivers not named Metcalf. Meyers desperately wants to play elsewhere, and the veteran would likely welcome the chance to play for a contender like the Steelers.
In 2025, Meyers has 29 catches for 329 yards. That's not the most eye-popping stat line, but it's better production than the Steelers are currently getting from their other receivers. Plus, Meyers has been much better in the past and has 1,000-yard potential.
In fact, the veteran's best season came just last year. In 2024, Meyers caught 87 passes for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. That was with some poor quarterback play, too, so there's no telling what Meyers could do with a future Hall of Famer like Aaron Rodgers.
Meyers would be a pure rental for the Steelers as he's set to enter free agency after the season. However, if the veteran impresses over the second half of the season, the Steelers would theoretically get the first shot at re-signing him.
