Mohamed Salah has said he will not take playing for Liverpool "for granted" after his goal against Aston Villa made history. The Egyptian has endured a difficult start to the campaign which has coincided with the Reds' recent awful form.
The Merseysiders overcame Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield to end a run of four Premier League losses in a row. Salah opened the scoring on the stroke of half time, reacting to a poor pass from Emiliano Martinez to pass the ball into a close to empty net.
It was a strike which saw him equal Wayne Rooney's record for most Premier League goal involvements for a single club. He also drew level with Roger Hunt and Ian Rush as the Reds' seventh highest ever goal-scorer.
Throughout this season, Salah has looked visibly unhappy on the pitch. At times, it has looked like he has been struggling with the process of adapting to the arrivals of Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
However, after he made his 277th goal contribution, he made it clear he is still enjoying his time on Merseyside. After the match, when told about drawing level with Hunt and Rush, he replied: "[I feel] Great.
"It’s a great feeling to score goals and win trophies at such a big club. It’s something that I don’t take for granted. I’m so happy and so proud.”
Ryan Gravenberch went on to score a vital second for the Reds to wrap up the victory over Unai Emery's side. It's a result which lifted Liverpool into third place, where they are seven points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

They face a pivotal Champions League clash against Real Madrid and a huge away trip against Manchester City in the Premier League. When asked about the importance of the win over Villa, he replied: "Yeah it was very important.
"We’ve lost a few in the Premier League and the Champions League. But we are starting to come back now.
"It’s a good win before some very important games with Real Madrid and Manchester City. It was a very important win for us.”

When asked if he is happy with his own personal performances, which have seen him net five goals and three assists in 14 appearances, Salah added: " No, I said at the beginning.
"But I know football, I’ve played it for many years. This is a very freaky season for us because we’ve had a few new players, very good signings, but they need time to adapt to the team.
"And we lost a few good players. We just need time to adapt and learn each others’ games. I think we’ll be fine."
