The 3-3 Atlanta Hawks currently hold position as the Eastern Conference's No. 8 seed through their first six games of the 2025-26 campaign.
Unfortunately for the revamped group, their 4-time All-Star point guard and 2025 assists champion Trae Young received a less-than-ideal update concerning a lower leg injury he sustained on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets.
"Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young sustained a sprained MCL in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, sources tell ESPN," ESPN's Shams Charania shared via X/Twitter.
"Young underwent an MRI on Friday and multiple doctor reviews that showed he dodged major structural damage in the knee."
Though he did avoid a more serious injury, Young's prolonged absence in the beginning of the season will be a rough loss for a Hawks group attempting to nab a guaranteed postseason berth.
Young sustained the injury during the first quarter of the Hawks' eventual 117-112 victory over the Nets on Wednesday night, when his teammate Mo Gueye slipped and inadvertently crashed into Young's right leg.
The 27-year-old floor general would then exit the contest and never return after only seven minutes of action.
Through his first five games of the new campaign before the injury, Young averaged 17.8 points and 7.8 assists paired with a 40.7% effective field goal percentage.
