Steelers Nostalgic Matchups
If you’re looking for a throwback list of names, this one is for you. The @AccountStat Twitter/X account compiled a list of the most common receiver/cornerback matchups of the past 20 seasons.
Two involving the Steelers made the list. Baltimore WR Derrick Mason versus Pittsburgh CB Ike Taylor (11 games) and Pittsburgh WR Antonio Brown versus Cincinnati Bengals CB Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones (11 games).
As the chart showed, the Steelers won on both ends. Taylor handled Mason well while Brown bested Jones. Current Steelers CB Darius Slay also appears on the list from his time facing WR Terry McLaurin in the NFC.
The most occurring matchup of the last two decades goes to the Indianapolis Colts’ T.Y. Hilton and the Houston Texans’ Johnathan Joseph. It’s a fun list that brings back plenty of memories.
Weidl At Ohio State
Pittsburgh Steelers Assistant General Manager Andy Weidl took in today’s Penn State/Ohio State game today, as spotted by analyst Joe Smeltzer.
The Buckeyes boast plenty of prospects worth checking out, including WR Carnell Tate. He entered the game with 34 receptions for nearly 600 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. A close game at half, Ohio State pulled away in the final 30 minutes to win 38-14.
Penn State has their own to watch even in a lost season and minus QB Drew Allar. RB Nick Singleton is having a down year but rushed for over 1,000 yards a season ago.
Elsewhere, Steelers’ scouts attended Texas versus Vanderbilt along with Boston College versus Notre Dame.
Players Visit Children’s Hospital
Steelers’ players took time to cheer up spirits at Children’s Hospital this week. DB D’Shawn Jamison, OL Steven Jones, and OL Spencer Anderson dressed up to visit the hospital. Jamison as Randall from Monsters Inc., Anderson as Shrek, and Jones as Obi-Wan Kenobi
Jamison and Jones are on the Steelers’ practice squad, while Anderson is on the 53-man roster. He is most often used as the team’s sixth offensive lineman.
Elsewhere, DL Cam Heyward wrapped up his fourth annual “Cam’s Kindness Week,” which featured him visiting Children’s Hospital and opening new locations of his Craig’s Closest, named for his late father, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward. The store provides dress clothes to boys and young men in need.
Schefter Predicts Trade Activity
Earlier this week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter predicted a busy finish to the NFL trade deadline. On the October 28th edition of his Adam Schefter podcast, Schefter predicted seven more trades would occur before the November 4th deadline.
Three trades have taken place since. The New England Patriots sent DE Keion White to the San Francisco 49ers and S Kyle Dugger to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Saturday, a rare deal between the Ravens and Eagles. Thus, Schefter thinks four trades are left on the board (he also made this comment on the 28th, but I can’t find/remember the source).
Who will be among those four? Could it be wide receivers like the Raiders’ Jakobi Meyers? Could pass rushers get moved around the league? And who will be the biggest name to be flipped? Those answers are coming soon enough, with potentially a half-dozen trades still on the horizon.
