Maye left UNC after two seasons as a starting quarterback that followed one year as an apprentice under Sam Howell. He played 26 games with the Tar Heels and is fifth all-time in program history with passing yards (8,018 yards), fourth in touchdown passes (63), fourth in total offense (9,227 yards), and he's tied for third in total touchdowns (79).
Maye was named the 2022 ACC Player of the Year in helping lead the Tar Heels to the ACC championship game and Holiday Bowl, where they lost to Oregon by one point. Carolina went 8-4 in 2023 before Maye announced he was heading to the NFL.
