Leeds United were abject at Brighton, to say the least. Leeds have picked up three points in five away games and have not scored aside from that win at Wolves.

The defeat at Burnley was meant to be a blip but, while the Seagulls were much tougher opposition, there is a worrying away trend being built. That will only heap more pressure on home games. Leeds are still above their points-per-game target but now only by a point.

A win against either Nottingham Forest or Aston Villa is a must given the torrid run of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool that follows. Yesterday was always going to be a tough game but the performance has left fans fearing for the worst.

Supporters might not wish to relive much of the game again but here are a few things from the day you may have missed.

Farke’s war of words

When Ethan Ampadu launched himself into the back of Diego Gomez out of frustration, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler jumped up apoplectic at the tackle. It was a pretty bad challenge, and rather dirty. Ampadu earned himself a yellow card but Hurzeler had wanted more.

He revealed afterwards that he had aired his belief that it should have been a red card. At the time of the challenge and his protestations, this seemed to irk Farke. He seriously disagreed with the Brighton boss and the pair exchanged some heated words.

Things calmed down and hands were shaken after full time so it wasn’t anything lasting. But it is rare to see Farke have a verbal set-to with a counterpart.

Farke’s general frustration

Farke had been unhappy for all of the first half, often lamenting to his bench about his team’s lack of bite and quickness of the pass or press. At one stage Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh thought the German was arguing at him when protesting at the referee over a decision.

The pair exchanged a few words but it was left there. The angriest Farke got was when Brenden Aaronson needlessly lost the ball midway through the first half, the manager turning to vent at the ground with hand gestures at the flimsy giveaway that led to a turnover.

Perhaps the day was summed up by the confusion with Jayden Bogle’s substitution. The right-back had felt ill at half time but felt better in the second period. But someone on the bench thought he gestured to come off having felt ill - but when taken off ,Bogle made it known that this had not happened. Not that it made any difference to the game, frankly.

Pre-match sights

Ao Tanaka was seen saying sorry to a steward for skewing a wayward shot at him in the warm up. Once the warm-up was over, Georginio Rutter came over to say hello to a few old colleagues with Ilia Gruev given a warm embrace.

The forward would later explain to Leeds Live that it felt 'strange' playing against his old teammates for the first time, and remembered the good times he had at United upon seeing the away support. After full time he gave his greetings to more of his former teammates.

The Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Amanda Grimshaw BEM, was at the game as part of the football club’s Remembrance tributes, which included a mosaic of a giant poppy from fans on the main stand. Afterwards, she came and sat in the press box next to one well-known Leeds United reporter.
