‘Unfortunately…’ - Nuno Espirito Santo snaps at journalist to reveal nerves before Newcastle…

NUFC absolutely LOVE the Carabao Cup 😍

Newcastle United have won a game at the London Stadium more recently than West Ham United.

Nuno Espirito Santo almost lost his cool with a reporter ahead of Newcastle United’s trip to West Ham United.

Eddie Howe’s men travel to East London aiming to pile on the pressure against the Premier League’s current underachievers. West Ham sit 19th in the table - four points adrift from safety.

Nuno is yet to win a game since being appointed as manager over a month ago. The supporters have boycotted games this season in protest at the club’s board, further highlighting the growing discontent.

Nuno Espirito Santo snaps at journalist

The Hammers boss lost his cool when a reporter asked why he had tinkered with the formation so much since arriving. Nuno replied: “We should have a conversation with you (off camera), it’s going to take a very long time! But honestly I wish we could stick with one (system) and the team clicks and it goes well so we can move forward.

“I like routines. Unfortunately we are not able to do it and it’s not easy for the players also. I hope Sunday we find (the right selection and balance), the team clicks, we play good, we compete well and we stick it.”

Crazy Newcastle United stat

A bonkers stat is how Newcastle have won a game at the London Stadium more recently (March 10) than West Ham. Bruno Guimaraes earned a 1-0 win just days before the Carabao Cup final triumph over Liverpool.

That fact demonstrates just how poor life has been for the Hammers in recent months. On the home form, Nuno added: “It's a reality that it's been tough - we can't hide from that. I hope we can connect with our fans well, and that the fans can see a good performance from the start. We need to be strong at home, and we need to compete.”

Eddie Howe on Callum Wilson

Another sideshow ahead of today’s game features Callum Wilson, who left Newcastle over the summer. He has seen little starting opportunities but many are calling for him to be given a chance against his former club.

“It will be great to see Callum,” Eddie Howe told reporters on Friday. “I think, most importantly, we have a job to do against him. I think I’ve said many times in this position how good I think he is, and his qualities as a player are undoubted.

“So, again, for our defenders and for our whole team, we need to be concentrated against him because it’s just one moment, one lapse in concentration, and he will punish you. So, I look forward to seeing him and embracing him after the game. But it’s about working and trying to stop him.”
