Injury expert gives Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres insight after Arsenal's win over Burnley

Arsenal continued their strong run of form in the Premier League with their fifth consecutive win in a 2-0 win over Burnley – but there is a double injury blow for Mikel Arteta to contend with.

Goals from summer signing Viktor Gyokeres and midfield maestro Declan Rice saw Arsenal win their fifth game in a row, including their fourth without conceding, as Burnley were put to the sword.

The Gunners are seven points clear of second-placed Bournemouth and are showing no signs of slowing down, with Mikel Arteta’s side aiming to clinch their first Premier League title in over 22 years.

However, Gyokeres left the field of play at half-time despite opening the scoring, and he could be joined by teammate Martin Zubimendi on the treatment table as a double injury blow was given towards the summer signing duo.

Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi were both taken off with injury precautions for Arsenal

Gyokeres’ smart movement saw him tap home the opener for Arsenal at Turf Moor, registering his fourth Premier League goal of the season after a brace against Leeds earlier in the season and a strike against Nottingham Forest.

However, he was confusingly substituted at half-time, replaced by Mikel Merino for the second half.

Mikel Arteta later admitted that £64million signing Gyokeres was taken off at the interval after ‘feeling something muscular’, with an assessment to be made on his status.

Viktor Gyökeres was taken off at half-time vs Burnley after “feeling something muscular.” Arteta says he’ll be assessed. By the sounds of things, it looks more like tightness or a Grade 1 strain rather than a big injury.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Physio Scout has stated that the talisman has either a tightness or a Grade 1 strain, the latter of which could rule him out for up to four weeks.

However, the bad news doesn’t stop there for Arteta. Martin Zubimendi was also withdrawn at Burnley after treatment, though that was more likely down to fatigue from a recent run of games.

Although both injuries aren’t anything ‘major’ to worry about, it will push Arteta’s squad to their limits up front with Kai Havertz not being back from injury yet.

Viktor Gyokeres could miss five matches for Arsenal if injury is as bad as first feared

A tough run of fixtures from now until Christmas will see Arsenal face high-flying Sunderland away from home, before two London clashes against Tottenham and Chelsea in the coming weeks.

That will then set up a flurry of games against bottom half sides such as Brentford, Wolves and Everton, in a bid to peel away from their competition in the Premier League title race.

Zubimendi’s injury should worry Arsenal, but if he has only been withdrawn as a precaution then that will be good news going forwards.

If, at the worst case, Gyokeres is out for four weeks, then he will miss the games against Sunderland, Tottenham and Chelsea before facing a race against time to be match fit for a quick flurry of games against Brentford and Aston Villa.

Perhaps most importantly of all, Gyokeres would miss a huge Champions League home tie against Bayern Munich, which would be key to the Gunners’ hopes of qualifying straight for the knockout stages.

Arteta will be hoping that the Swedish star will have avoided a groin strain so that he is fit and firing for the upcoming run of games to help them through the season.
