Manchester United are poised to ‘accelerate’ their efforts to sign Nottingham Forest ace Elliot Anderson in January, it has been claimed.
The Reds midfielder has plenty of admirers thanks to his eye-catching form for both club and country. He has become a key player in the Garibaldi and has also cemented his place in England boss Thomas Tuchel’s thinking.
United were linked with Anderson earlier this month amid reports strengthening in the centre of the pitch would be a priority for them next summer. But it appears trying their luck sooner has not been ruled out.
According to Caught Offside, Ruben Amorim’s side view the 22-year-old as a ‘long-term investment’. It is claimed they could ‘accelerate their efforts’ to sign him in a couple of months’ time.
A price tag in the region of £70 million has reportedly been placed on Anderson’s head. Manchester City and Chelsea are also said to be keen on him while Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has admitted he would love to have him back at St James’ Park.
Forest signed Anderson from the Magpies in the summer of 2024. They paid £35m for his services, although that fee essentially became £15m as goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos went the other way for £20m.

Asked if he could see academy graduate Anderson returning to Tyneside one day, Howe recently said: “I don’t know, but certainly from my perspective I would love him to. I’m very respectful of the fact he is at another football club and I would never normally talk about a player in that way, so I won’t change that stance.
“But yes, it is very regretful a player from the academy who had given so much – and the club had given so much to, the coaching staff, all those years here and how people tried to develop those talents – for him not to be utilised here is a real shame.”
Anderson put in another standout performance against United on Saturday. He helped the hosts claim their first Premier League point under new head coach Sean Dyche as the game finished 2-2.
Asked about Anderson afterwards, Dyche said: "I said after the Porto game he has got to learn the nuts and bolts, positionally, but he is a very good player. He deals with the ball well and has got a really good attitude.
"I like him. He's got that nice nature about him. He moans a lot, but we'll get that out of him! He moans in a good way.
