Vitor Pereira has been sacked by Wolves following the 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

Wolves will make the trip to Chelsea next weekend without the services of manager Vitor Pereira with the 57-year-old sacked by the Midlands outfit on Sunday, following a 3-0 defeat to Fulham.

Wolves sit rock bottom of the Premier League and have become the first top flight team to go back-to-back top flight campaigns without a win in their first 10 fixtures. Pereira helped the side avoid relegation last season but has now been axed, just over a month after signing a new three-year deal with the club.

Following the 3-0 defeat to Fulham, Pereira and his players were involved in a heated conversation with Wolves fans. The manager had also shown his anger at frustrations following defeat to Burnley.

The fixtures do not get any easier for Wolves, who travel to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon. The club also takes on Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in November before meeting Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool as the busy festive fixture period arrives.

Chelsea face Wolves again next weekend having beaten the opposition 3-2 in Carabao Cup action on Wednesday. Pereira referenced that match following defeat at Craven Cottage, he said: “I’m disappointed today. I’m not proud of my work, of our work, because I don’t know why. I don’t know if it’s because mentally, we put a lot of energy in the last game against Chelsea until the last minute.

“But what I realised today was a very difficult game for us, tactically, technically, physically. We played maybe one of the worst games that we’ve played. Even with 11 against 11, since the first minute the energy to move, the offensive dynamic, and the energy to press was not there.

“After five minutes, I started to realise that something is missing today. But the game was balanced, because even then, they were not playing in a high level. But after the goal, we tried to do something, but not in our level. After the red card, it was very difficult for us.”

Ex Chelsea coach Brendan Rodgers frontrunner for Wolves job

If Wolves plan on finding a permanent appointment before the trip to Chelsea, they have six days to do so. It’s a familiar face for the Blues who has become an immediate frontrunner to take the job at Molineux.

That is ex Chelsea coach Brendan Rodgers. The 52-year-old quit his post at Celtic last week and could make a swift return to management back in the Premier League. Rodgers, who is widely reported to be the leading candidate, has previously worked at Swansea City, Liverpool and Leicester City.

Rodgers’ first job in coaching came with the Chelsea academy when Jose Mourinho was in charge at Stamford Bridge in 2004. He went on to be promoted to reserve team manager before taking his first head coach role at Watford in 2008.

Speaking about Mourinho ahead of taking on his former mentor when managing Leicester City against Roma in 2022, Rodgers described the veteran as a ‘special man’. He added: "I haven't forgotten what I gained from him as a young coach. I studied him and watched him. I was in pole position for that.

"I was at Chelsea for four and a bit years. He was there for three of them. The teams I saw him coach, he coached them to be aggressive. There is nothing wrong with that. He sets up his teams to make them very difficult to beat. That is OK too. He is one of the greats of our generation. He has nothing to prove to anyone. He is a winner. He will always be a winner."
