Steelers star hit with massive fine for poking Packers defender in the eye

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf was fined $12,172 for poking Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker in the eye. The play, which was called a personal foul on the field and cost the Steelers 15-yards, was filed under ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ from Metcalf.

The play happened in the fourth quarter as the Steelers tried to get back in the game. Metcalf was nabbed for the penalty, making what would have been a 3rd-and-2 into a 3rd-and-17, essentially killing the Steelers’ drive altogether.

Metcalf was one of six penalties for the Steelers against the Packers, and was one of the most costly of those fouls. It thwarted the very little window the Steelers had to potentially make a comeback with their offense. By the end of the game, it was part of the calamity that snowballed into a second half collapse.

“We hurt ourselves with penalties,” Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers said. “We had opportunities to put ourselves in better situations. [Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith] did a great job of calling plays. We had a couple of busts and some opportunities we didn’t come up with. I missed a throw. We can’t expect Boz to be bailing us out like that every single week.”

Walker, meanwhile, came out and said after the game that it took ‘everything in him’ to not retaliate towards Metcalf, who seemingly tried to provoke a response out of the Packers star.
